Kahaila, 135 Brick Lane, is a recently opened coffee shop which simply gets everything right. Tucked neatly between the Bacon Street and Cheshire Street stretch of Brick Lane this refurbished coffee shop brings a welcomed slice of East Village NYC to London’s ever evolving Bethnal Green.
A premises interior stripped back to raw exposed London brick and dipped oak doors with a cavernous sun filled interior magnetically draws you to an environment which is both clean, calm and inviting. Over sized art work adored the walls and a band was in the process of setting up in the corner for the cafes later evening live music session.
Exasperated by an afternoon of gallery visits and back street exploration I placed my order at the counter prior to finding a phew in the welcomed afternoon shade. The staff were totally unpretentious and friendly and brought our highly anticipated order to our table with a smile. The coffee was rich and full flavored and the cakes… we are talking out of body experience. Oreo cookie cub cakes and a slice of red velvet chocolate sponge were just two of the locally home cooked gems I sampled. First fork full and my eyes rolled back into my head like a sleeping dog in the sun as endorphins over whelmed my entire body. The kick from the coffee and the come down from the cake in tranquility smashed it out the park. Kahaila is a home run.
